Synopsis

Arthur is dying.

He must transition within the next four weeks or face permanent memory loss.

Alba is studying, preparing to impress the Mentors in an all-important interview. If sheโ€™s picked as the next Apprentice she will be reunited with her best friend and cross the Wilderness for the first time.

They meet and everything comes together.

And everything falls apart.

Thank you @Marotte for this stunning copy and totally gripping and thought provoking read.

My Review

For men may come and men may go, but I go on forever.

Told over two perspectives.

Itโ€™s 2086, anti biotic's no longer work and viruses are rife. The only way to survive is to transition into a new host, and thats only if you can afford the insurance.

Arthur has a brain tumour. He has only lasted in this latest body for a couple of years and now he has been told he has to transition again as he has only weeks to live.

As son and heir to the founder of the M.A.D.E foundation he knows he has to transition again without any fuss other wise it will look bad for the foundation and all it stands for. But Arthur has his doubts and their are questions he needs answers to before he has his memories and his mind placed into another body.

Alba is a seventeen year old girl.

Her name is something she was given by her friend. Really she is known as Host F3527. Herself and many other hosts live at centre 6. They are educated, kept healthy and prepare for a life of service to the creator. As far as they are aware there can not step outside their compound as the wilderness beyond is full of radiation and that all the chosen hosts who are smart enough and clever enough will go on to help solve the issue of radiation poisoning on the land and make it habitual again.

But not everything is as itโ€™s seems and a chance meeting between Arthur and Alba is about to rock everyoneโ€™s current way of life.

I absolutely loved this story! I was hooked from the very first page and literally devoured it within two days and regularly found myself holding my breath and gasping out loud!

Realisation of what is actually happening slowly creeps up on you as you read and I found myself praying for an outcome I felt was sure to come!

Why I Loved It

I absolutely loved this story! I was hooked from the very first page and literally devoured it within two days and regularly found myself holding my breath and gasping out loud!

Realisation of what is actually happening slowly creeps up on you as you read and I found myself praying for an outcome I felt was sure to come!

I loved the way the author keeps you guessing as to what is really going on, itโ€™s not an easy plot to guess and the shock factor slams you when you finally realise the truth!

I highly recommend this book to everyone and if your a fan of dystopian fiction then this one needs to adorn your shelves!!

Thought provoking and at times terrifying, you canโ€™t help but root for the characters in this story. Even at the end when I had my answers I was left guessing about a strong character. Could he be trusted or was he in on it the whole time ?

Meet the author

I grew up in Richmond-upon-Thames and read Law at Oxford University. After qualifying as a solicitor, I quit the law (with a huge sigh of relief) and pursued my passion for working with children and helping them prepare for and survive exams, setting up my own tutoring agency in the process.

Iโ€™d always loved books, particularly ones with a sci-fi element, but at this point had never imagined Iโ€™d be writing rather than just reading them. It all changed with the birth of my first daughter. Ideas and fears based around global warming and the inequality Iโ€™d witnessed through my work in education began to solidify and take shape. Iโ€™d already decided that Iโ€™d take 6 months off work so this was my chance. While my baby slept, I typed and so The Territory was born. I didnโ€™t know if it was going to go anywhere so I named the main character, Noa, after my daughter, so at least sheโ€™d have someone of the same name to read about when she grew up.

To my immense good fortune, The Territory was picked up by the Welsh publishing house, Firefly and launched in May 2015 followed by The Territory: Escape in October 2016. The final instalment of the trilogy, The Territory: Truth, is out on 29th March 2018.

Since the initial release of The Territory, Iโ€™ve been lucky to meet so many lovely and extraordinary teens, English teachers, librarians, booksellers and fellow authors at my speaking engagements across the country. There have been so many highlights โ€“ teenagers in Gateshead voting it their favourite read of 2016, The Guardianโ€™s website describing it as The 1984 of our time. However, I donโ€™t think anything will top being told by a teen in Cardiff that every time they sit a test at school, he and his friends work out whether or not their results meant theyโ€™d get to stay in the Territory or be banished to the Wetlands.
