This is the chilling announcement Alfie hears one night, when he wakes in his quiet, suburban house to find his twin daughters at the foot of his bed. It's been nine months since Pippa - their mother - suddenly died and they've been unsettled ever since, so Alfie assumes they've probably had a nightmare. Still, he goes to check to reassure the girls. As expected he finds no man, but in the following days the girls begin to refer to someone called Black Mamba.

What seemingly begins as an imaginary friend quickly develops into something darker, more obsessive, potentially violent. Alfie finds himself struggling to cope, and so he turns to Julia - Pippa's twin and a psychotherapist - for help.

But as Black Mamba's coils tighten around the girls, Alfie and Julia must contend with their own unspoken sense of loss, their unacknowledged attraction to one another, and the true character of the presence poisoning the twins' minds...

My Review

Morning bookworms,

This morning Iโ€™m finally sharing my thoughts on this extremely unnerving storyโ€ฆ

Black Mamba is a story about a dad and his two girls. Itโ€™s a story about a family caught in the throes of grief and not knowing how to deal with the aftermath of life after losing their mum and wife.

Alfie tried his best but the house that they live in has a history, itโ€™s where his wife died in the basement and her father years before that died in the loft.

Aunt Julia, also a twin with the twin girls mother, is a therapist and tries to help but she feels somethings not quite right and despite her own advice gets drawn in also.

This book gives you creepy, spine tingling vibes from the very first page! This is also the only book to have made me physically jump in the middle of the day.

You know somethings off, you know there is a threatening ghostly presence and that it is messing with the little girls, driving a wedge between them and creating more cracks in an already fractured family.

But at one point I thought oooh maybe itโ€™s the dad, maybe he is doing all this when he drinks to sleep and the girls are trying to protect him!

The plot is so very clever, I was kept guessing all the way through as to what was actually going on inside Hart House and the characters were all brilliantly scary in their own right. You know the dad is depressed, and this makes you consider the fact that maybe it could be him, Little clues dropped via his dreams which donโ€™t really make any sense at first give your that โ€˜ooooohโ€™ feeling on more than one occasion when you read on a little further and realise they are linked to their real life, these in them selves were just so captivating and eerie.

Chilling details that fall into place are dotted everywhere for you to piece together. All the way through you are led to believe that there is this menacing creature causing this family harm but like I mentioned previously at some point this turns and you start to question your own thoughts and wonder if the dad is unknowingly the dark prescience in the home.

Watch out for the end of chapter sixโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿซฃ

Why I Loved It

This is the perfect read if you want to be freaked out. Itโ€™s gripping, extremely compelling, utterly nerve wracking and the ending leaves you with the biggest feeling of unease! I hadnโ€™t up until this point found a book that actually scares me, this one finally gave me all the chills ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Thank you @atlanticbooks for this brilliant read. This is an author I will definitely be looking out for.

Q. What was the last book that gave you the chills?

* Monty was very happy to help with the making of this reel ๐Ÿ
